Taina Kanninen has worked as a registered nurse and a ward sister in Finland for 35 years. She has spent most of her career working in psychiatric wards and currently serves in the Central Hospital of Päijät-Häme, Finland, as a ward sister in child and adolescence psychiatry.

Taina defended her PhD in the Spring of 2023 at the University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio, Finland. Her dissertation is entitled The State of Professional Governance in Finland and Interventions to Strengthen It. Many Finnish university hospitals are developing their work towards Magnet© principles, and Taina measured these advancements by using the Hess Index of Professional Nursing Governance (IPNG).

Now, after completing her PhD, Taina plans to continue advancing professional governance in Finnish healthcare by giving lectures and writing articles about the subject.
