Claire Morley, PhD, BN (Hons), RN

Dr Claire Morley is the Nursing Director for Nursing and Midwifery Excellence at Hospitals South in the Tasmanian Health Service (THS), Tasmania, Australia. The main focus of her role is to achieve Pathway to Excellence designation for Hospitals South – an organization that covers half of the island state of Tasmania. As evidence of shared decision-making for direct care staff is a requirement for a successful Pathway designation, Claire has recently established a shared governance convening council to develop a shared governance framework for the THS to implement.

Claire undertook her initial nurse training at Watford General Hospital in the UK (an NHS hospital trained nurse). She has since completed a Bachelor of Nursing with Honours at the University of Tasmania (UTAS). Her doctoral research, also undertaken at UTAS, was a mixed methods study investigating the drivers of emergency department presentations across the state of Tasmania. She has worked across a range of clinical, education, research, and leadership roles.

Claire’s passion lies in ensuring the voice of nurses and midwives in the Australian public healthcare system are included in all decisions that govern the care they provide.
